The Blue Goose BEGINNINGS WERE HUMBLE (But hilarious!)
Our History
Historically, the organization came into life in 1906 on the shores of Green Lake, Wisconsin, during the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Fieldmen. It was intended as a lark for those in attendance, but the idea took hold, and from that unpretentious beginning, the Order has grown into the International Order of today. (Don Cook October 1994)
The Honorable Order Of The Blue Goose is a fraternal organization of men and women who work in the property, casualty insurance industry. We meet social and fraternally, and not as part of any insurance company or industrial group. Our mutual link is the career experience we have in our chosen field. We're a community of interest, experience, activity and feeling. This community nature is something larger and yet more intimate than a business association or networking group. We are genuine friends.
The Regina Pond
The Honorable Order of the Blue Goose Regina Pond’s charity of record is the Saskatchewan Abilities Council. This is a training facility for mentally challenged youth and adults. Since 1958 the Regina Pond has donated over fifty thousand dollars for capital expenses, office equipment and furniture to the Saskatchewan Abilities Council.
We provide a Christmas Dinner, which is referred to as the Blue Goose KFC Luncheon. Approximately 150 people from the training facility of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, as well as member of the Blue Goose attend.
We have also been involved in the 24-hour Easter Seal Relay for Camp Easter Seal. We help raise money by supplying co-ordination and volunteer manpower to run the various relay points and clean up.
We sell pool tickets on the Grey Cup and Super Bowl with the proceeds going to the council
Each year we make an award of $150.00 to a student of the Insurance Institute of Canada.
In 2005, we won the Charity Award for North America & Australia. No Blue Goose Pond in Canada had ever won this award before.
